FRAMING AIDS 2009

FRAMING AIDS 2009 is the fifth annual exhibition presented by QMAD, Queens Media Arts Development, in observance of World AIDS Awareness in December. This year's selection is based on the healthcare reform proposed by the Obama administration, and how it could impact people affected by HIV/AIDS. Participating artists use a diverse range of tools, techniques and aesthetic strategies to motivate us to reflect on the AIDS pandemic in terms of medical treatments, accessibility to medicine, and the human component.  The program also includes the participation of poets, musicians, dancers and filmmakers presenting work in conjunction with this exhibition at other venues around the borough.  In addition, the online multimedia component and the outreach work in collaboration with APICHA for on-site HIV Testing, help us bring artists, community groups, organizations, and the general public together in an environment conducive to dialogue, reflection, and much needed action.
